WHAT IS THE GIVE GRID?

The Give Grid is a live source of ideas and tools to help make easy and achievable energy savings in your workplace. ACOSS has developed The Give Grid as a hub for sharing and supporting Good Energy Stories – exploring how energy efficiency can be simple and relevant and make you real savings that matter.

Some fun ideas to get you started. What could energy efficiency look like in your organisation?

Wasting energy is not only inefficient, it costs you money! It can also make your workplace environment unnecessarily uncomfortable or chew up valuable and scarce resources that could be better used for other things. Good energy use can save you money, time and energy – freeing funds and creating opportunities for the things that are more important than a monthly energy bill! Our ultimate goal is to help a host of community organisations – large and small – become more energy efficient, and enjoy all the savings that brings. By supporting our sector to make smart energy choices in our immediate contexts – our workplaces – our hope is that real benefits will be unlocked to better support organisations, support the communities they work with.

Who is this project for?

If you are part of the community sector then this project is for you.

Our sector is a natural fit for driving positive social change. We are excited to be able to use this project to share the sustainability stories of organisations all around Australia, and to help build capacity and resilience to face future energy challenges and cost pressures. This project is a real chance for community organisations to give energy saving a go and enjoy the benefits! We hope you share our enthusiasm for The Give Grid and show your support for a homegrown solution and help us bring it to life.

Making it easy

We’re breaking down the process to keep things simple.

Navigating the complex maze of incentives, schemes, funding opportunities and possible actions can be overwhelming, and as community organisations we aren’t typically plugged in to a network of energy efficiency experts that can help. We may also struggle to find the time or headspace to figure it out on our own and keep everything else running. To bridge the gap, we’ve developed a way to break down the process of becoming more energy efficient into six bite-sized chunks over the next twelve months, and connect community organisations with experts, and each other, to provide support along the way.

Your project, story or knowledge can make a difference to others. You may have a simple idea that has worked really well, or you may be able to encourage others to stick with it because you have, and know what real savings are achievable.

Your input matters so we’ve created a way that you can share your energy wins, chat to others about challenges, motivate each other to keep going, applaud what you think is a great idea or just plain quirky – and have a bit of a laugh along the way. This is a forum for your ideas and resourcefulness. Our collected ideas and actions can build a storehouse of shared knowledge to benefit the sector and beyond to the communities we work with.

A grid that gives back

This project is about the best of human energy in our sector, redirecting funds for the things that matter most.

By contributing to The Give Grid, you can draw attention to the fact that energy efficiency opens up new opportunities for all kinds of community organisations, in all kinds of communities, and that good energy use gives back generously. Beyond the obvious financial savings, contributors get some other great perks, including opportunities to receive nifty gadgets that help save energy or a free energy audit for your workplace; the chance to attend free training and workshops; or enjoy some other Good Energy Experiences we’ve put together to give you a taste of the many ways the energy you save can be turned into other good things

What is energy efficiency?

Energy efficiency simply means using less energy to provide the same service or achieve the same result. It’s about being aware of what you use, doing things smarter, or with improved technology, with absolutely no drop in the services you provide or the level of comfort you experience.

We know you’re busy, so we’ve made this as easy and enjoyable as possible.

Buy a bicycle rack so we can clear space for a standup workstation - plus plants for every desk.

We would install security screens on the windows so that all the bolted windows could be opened, allowing fresh air into the building and minimizing the need for air conditioning.

I would spend our savings on building a hen house and a veggie patch for the children to further lean about sustainability.
